Re: PR Morado, PR Verdin, Tigua and ARH Plantain Update!
Great banana & pics! ... From your description of 'cold sensitive', I take it as these would not fruit and not likely to survive the winter here in 8b (9a micro) south Georgia.

Thanks Ed! You are right!....As part as The Red Subgroup Family 'nana varieties (Tall Red, Dwarf Red, Jamaican Red, Cuban Red, etc.) they are very cold sensitive!....It is one of the first 'nana varieties that go dormant when temp. starting to drop!.... I'm not saying its not possible, but it will be a real challenge to grow (most likely won't survive the winter there) and then to flower/blooms in your area/zone!..... |

If it doesnt flower until it is 14 feet than I wont get any fruit this year from my small 3 feet who spent t the winter in my garage and has sprung 2 leaves since i put it in the ground.. |

Curious to hear what you think of the taste of the two types of reds. I prefer the green reds.

Re: PR Morado, PR Verdin, Tigua and ARH Plantain Update!
Wow that is amazing to have both of them at the same time! I can't wait to hear which you like better! How long was planting to harvest? I've read both have extremely long cycles!
You don't see many Verdin bunches!!! Your very lucky bro! You must have a half red/half green thumb! Lmao. |

Thank you Mark, bro!..... *****PR Morado & PR Verdin taste report!***** from left to right: A double PR Morado 'Nana & PR Verdin 'Nana!..... PR Morado 'Nana...... PR Verdin 'Nana.... Woohoo!......PR Morado & PR Verdin are a very, very good 'Nana varieties!....I let both 'Nana varieties to get on the perfect stage of ripen, not to green, not to ripe (brown marks)....As I expected from the Red subgroup 'Nana varieties, the right sweetness, a creamy and firm 'Nana!.....Creamy on the outer layer getting firm in the inner section!.....A very small hint of tartness!.....I considered both 'Nanas, a much, much better in taste than a Cavendish or a Namwah 'Nana varieties!...... The winner is!......Is a draw!......No winner in the taste contest!....LOL!......Both 'Nana varieties are very similar in taste!...Equally awesome taste for both!....Definitely up there with the best!.... I always wondered why the PR Verdin 'Nana when it's put up to a 'Nana contest, always come, as one of the best 'Nana varieties in taste!.....Also, has been mentioned before, with years, the PR Morado can mutate to a PR Verdin!.....I think that is a factor of the similarity in taste!..... Thanks for seeing/following the thread!.....:2723::bananarow::2723: |

Wow! Thank you for updating all of us who can't grow these super long cycle amazing red bananas! Seriously made me hungry for a good banana. Unfortunaly I have to eat this cavendish closing my eyes and pretending it's a PR Verdin.
Seriously thank you so much for taking the time to give a report on this crazy rare variety! I doubt 5 people in the US grow the PR Verdin. Amazing to actually see fruit from it!! |
Re: PR Morado, PR Verdin, Tigua and ARH Plantain Update!

They are both in the Red subgroup. I've never had a green to red but red to green is very common. Thanks for the great pics Hector bro Quote:
