Many of my propagation posts are meant to give members the basic idea of what works without saying exactly how something should be done. Tipping a pot over obviously works but there's a better way of doing it. Here's a post I wrote a couple years ago that was meant to give members growing A'ea'e the basic idea of how to prevent killing their A'ea'e during the winter while also macropropagating it at the same time. Many members kill their A'ea'e over the winter because of the combination of slower growth rate and poor soil aeration.
By raising the soil level (only 3" in the photo below) the plant will raise it's growing point to adjust to the new soil level and then will produce new roots slightly below it's new location. If the grower makes the original rhizome rot over the winter it won't affect the plant because the growing point was safely moved to higher ground. If the grower doesn't makes the original rhizome rot it will automatically activate it's auxiliary buds after the main growing point is removed.

Right now, the experiment Banana plant is just growing normally upright and will do so until next Winter when I roll it over into dormancy so I won't know how that part goes until next Spring. |
