Default Musa double mahoi

I was given a Musa double mahoi banana plant only about a year ago. It has produced 6 babies and now the main plant is producing bananas. I would like to know how to tell when ready to eat. Also I am saddened to learn they only produce once and then die. Is this correct info. I don't know anything about this plant. Please let me know. Thanls

We do have a banana wiki which may help inform you about your plant. They can produce multiple bunches in the 2nd generation (the pups from your mama plant).
