I don't mean to pick on any of the newbies: I'm a newbie myself. But the thought had occurred to me: If you had a dollar for every time someone had asked you about his or her Ice Cream/Blue Java and you had found it necessary to break it to this individual that the banana in question was actually a Pisang Awak, how much money would you have made to date, and what would you do with said fortune?

I haven't had that happen. But how about a dollar for every time someone said bananas don't grow here. Now with that money, no more shipping banana plants. I would pick them up.

esp goes to those who live in zones8 and lower. I cant imagine chopping my naner waist high and then uprooting it. Even to just go through the trouble of wheeling the pot into a basement or making room in an already crowded garage. Qui est incroyable et un vrai travail d'amour!![]() |

If I had a dollar for everytime someone said "I didn't know there was more than one type of banana" I would have some extra spending money. Maybe enough to buy a disk so I could keep the alleys clean.

I had a space up north with an 8' tall and 12' wide bay window facing south; if needed I could put taller plants on the flour in front and gain another 5'. I had a calamondin that produced and a snake plant that bloomed (very sticky and overpoweringly sweet) along with other Yankee "houseplants"; they all thrived. I knew nothing about cultivating bananas then so didn't try. I did keep my eyes peeled for a rubber plant which I never found and I never, over 20 years ago, see a Musa even in the pricey garden centers. I killed wandering Jew cuttings over and over. Weird because I have enough starts in my yard for everyone up North wishing for a pot of them and perhaps the rest of the world. Hmmm...maybe that's my money maker?
Blue Java only interests me because I might, living so close to Agristarts, help them get it right.
