Re: Hey Valor X your Orinoco is
My 2nd one in another mat flowered around that height too.
Here's the Grand Nain I got from you This was back early April this year. It survived freezing temps even though it was small. This is it now there's at least 10 in there It really liked the shade net I added and started growing much faster. We finally got some much needed rain this morning. Hoping it survives again this winter so I can try some home grown Chiquita banana next year.

See if you can document/identify any differences between Orinoco and Blue Java other than color. Although Orinoco is not mentioned in my World of Bananas book, my understanding is that they are both in the Bluggoe family so they are very similar. |

Re: Hey Valor X your Orinoco is
For starters the Blue Java was a much more vigorous grower. Maybe it was the spot but it rocketed vs the Orinoco more slow and steady. Main stem, petioles and leaves are also thicker and more stout. We'll see what the flower and crop look like soon enough.

Re: Hey Valor X your Orinoco is
It takes a while in the SE. Ty Taylor thinks it has to do with the level of humidity in our area vs. the drier West. Bunches in the fall when there is a lower level of humidity are suppose to be more blue than bunches in the spring when the humidity is higher.

Re: Hey Valor X your Orinoco is
Looks like 5 hands, maybe 4 1/2 depending on how that last one fills out. between 40 and 50 pieces on it's first fruiting

Re: Hey Valor X your Orinoco is
Not bad! That was definitely a happy plant
Here's one we just harvested at my mother's place Also check out this picture I found online. Apparently Orinoco can put out big bunches like this but I've never seen one that big in person.
