Default is this a cavendish?

I have other dwarf cavendish plants but found this at a local store with a tag only saying 'banana plant'. Was wondering if the markings on the leaves could also be of another type of banana plant besides the dwarf cavendish.[IMG][/IMG]

Looks like a cavendish and a dog of sorts
As the plant matures and gets direct sunlight the coloring will change.
At the moment leaf color and growth habit does not look like many of the retail ornamentals.

We have had and are having a lot of rain and wind in a short period of time and some of my basjoos fell over and broke at the stem. A couple are still standing but are leaning. Do I dig down and sever the root system (and stake) and try to straighten them up or leave them alone. If I try to straighten them without severing the roots, I think they will break at the stem. It happened on some I tried to straighten. [IMG][/IMG]

I live in hurricane alley and this happens to me at least twice a year it seems.

If the pstem is snapped clean off the base corm then its done. If its just leaning or was pulled out of the ground but not snapped I dig around the corm and stick it back in the ground. Takes about two weeks to recover in my area. If a couple roots on the opposite side snap I don't worry about it. I also usually provide some support. Either a stake or tie a rope from the plant to the fence. Banana plants are tough!

So, you're saying this will not grow another stem?[IMG]

If it took out the grow point which was the case for mine. It will produce pups so it’s not a complete write off but I always have a follower so I shift my attention to it.

Note: It looks like it took out the grow point to me but I’m on my phone. Just leave it. It will either grow or die. You will know in a couple weeks either way.

My biggest Basjoo fell last night. I'm guessing just too much water. We've had 10+ inches of rain in the last 2 weeks. Most of the Basjoos are just breaking at the base. They seem to be 'pushing' so I hope something will grow there. Never had the plants just fall over and break, but never had so much rain in a short period of time.[IMG]

I'm hoping the 'pushing' center will continue. [IMG]

Is having basjoos just fall over and break at the stem a cause of too much water? I have lost all but one leaning plant and want to try and straighten this one up by digging in front of it and adding soil without touching the plant. I tried pulling some of the other plants up and they broke off and one big one just broke by itself. The day this happened I wasn't home but neighbors said not much wind but 2 down-pours of rain and we have had lots of rain the past 2 weeks. There are some small pups coming.[IMG]
