Unhappy Banana plant got knocked over and the pseudostem broke off...

A week or so ago I had a 8’ tall banana plant that’s in the ground get knocked over in the wind. The pseudostem broke cleanly off at the soil line. Will the pseudostem grow back? I’m hoping if nothing else it will put out pups or something. I wonder if it could be dead. I’ll post a picture tomorrow. Thanks for any help!

Oh man that sorta thing is such a bummer! Especially for us climate pushers. Hopefully it will be alright. A great thing about Musa is they usually do spring back!

Good luck

Thank you so much for the reassuring words! Truly appreciate it!

To Cincinnana:

It is very nice of you to be concerned for my poor plant like I am! I’m curious to see what you think now that you can see the plant for yourself! Thank you too by the way!

No problem, the photos, it might just be me. But is it rotten? It might just be the photo but I would remove all the excess dead stuff and dead roots. But otherwise. I’d put it in 50/50 perlite soil and give it heat and let it grow

Yes I did notice when I dug up the corm that the top part of it was mushy. However, on the whole the corm was still hard! I was totally surprised when I looked it at it closely there is a pup coming up! So it’s not dead! Yay! Good idea about the perlite soil & heat! I’ve got it in it’s own container and it’ll be right in the sun! So I am looking forward to seeing it progress! Thanks again for the help! Very kind of you!

That is basically what one of my HH corms looked like when I dug it out, with the little shoot on the side and everything. I cleaned it up a bit, not hugely, and planted it in free draining potting mix, taking care not to water it too much, and it is now growing nicely.

How about that! I’m glad to know that another corm could look like that and yet grow back well! Thanks for letting me know that! So glad your HH is doing great then!

Surprise! Surprise! There is some life left for this banana after all! Believe it or not I’ve got a pup growing now!

Yes I did have another accident with this plant. While watering one day I didn’t realize that I had the hose nozzle on jet stream and nearly knocked the pup right off! Thankfully it’s fine and working on it’s 3rd leaf now!
