![]() Hi,
so I'm in the UK. I'm growing a range of bananas in my heated polytunnel. its winter now and it's getting dark early. I thought the lower temperatures would cause it to go dormant. (polytunnel is between 9/10 degrees Celsius at night and max of 19 during the day. but it varies). but they are still growing. very slowly though. but they aren't dormant. because of this, they are struggling due to the light. the leaves are slightly yellow and white. my question, do I fertilise them? what do I do? I don't want to cut them down. any ideas thanks Last edited by drone : 11-28-2020 at 11:40 AM. |

![]() Hi Drone,
Ive a similar setup my greenhouse is heated, I do not feed them and keep them a lot dryer using a moister probe for an exact time for a drink, I run a grow light from 16.30 to 21.00 just to extend daylight hours with this my plants are still active and green of course a lot slower than summer. Hy heater is set to 15 degrees and the upper half is fully bubble wrap insulated. Hope this helps as Ive similar conditions to you (South East UK). Id love to see your set up if you want to post up some pictures, 2mb in size for pictures in a post by the way. |

![]() I also started growing bananas in a polytunnel. So far its not heated and my lowest temperatur up to today was about 2 or 3 degrees celsius.
At day time it still rises up to lets say 25 degrees und they are still slowly active too. I thought the yellowing of the leaves comes from the ground that is cooling down.

![]() Hi,
thanks for the reply. yeah, I'm in the SE Uk. in west Sussex. i have bubble wrap to keep heat in. i don't use grow lights as im so far away from the house. so have to use gas power. sometimes my heater goes off and it always makes me shi* myself when I wake up and its 3 degrees instead of 13. I will try to upload a photo but I'm new to this site. the next bananas I'm after is musa aeae and blue java. hoping to sell some pups on ebay next year. |
