baker creek bananas [tc's]
I was intrigued by the tread [rookie needing a coach! southern cali zone 10a by LoveR]. to buy tc's you already sure your may not get exactly what you ordered and then to definitely not know what your going to get. sounds like more fun than slashing peoples tires in the middle of a hot day! so I bought some. so for your entertainment and mine I bought 6. 30 dollars and shipping was 3.25, ordered on Friday and got them today, Thursday. was hoping for 6 different varieties, but I received 2 namwa, 2 dc and 2 iholena. instructions bananas.org was not on the instruction sheet. don't know how it got there.

the Banana.org logo is the forum watermark for picture stored in the forum picture gallery.
I just tried to look at baker creek website and their bananas, all I found was the pink banana. Other banana links kept redirecting to their Homepage. ??? Keep us posted on how those work for you. |

Re: baker creek bananas [tc's]
I think Beam bought the last of their stock. The link I put in that thread redirects to the homepage and the dwarf bundle isn't showing in the search results.

Re: baker creek bananas [tc's]
probably when that thread came out the I want a cheap nanna for my porch people spurred a lot of orders. nearly as soon as I saw it I ordered basically looking at the iholena. so I ordered fairly quickly.

Re: baker creek bananas [tc's]
Dwarf Iholena, but which one?
Someone did the groundwork on this iholena earlier this year. I also e-mailed the tc lab, and they confirmed the story but wouldnt give me any info on who their initial collector in Hawaii was or how they obtained the material. Is there rules on moving banana material out of Hawaii? Id guess they can do more if people want them. |

I received the same plants yesterday only one of each.. They look healthy.. Put them in one gallon grower pots.. Have them in a little shade for a few days.

Re: baker creek bananas [tc's]
pic of them in pots. all of them are leaning. the front 2 are iholena [I really think they are iholeaners a close cousin to the ohioleaners in some of the pics from cincinnana ] the 2 on the right in the back are dc and on the left are namwa.

Re: baker creek bananas [tc's]
Any updates on these dwarf iholena? I'm curious how they are growing and what they look like? Any new pictures would be awesome!
After recently tasting Tigua fruit which were amazing! For sure a keeper! I'm looking for a pup off one of these dwarf iholena! If you have one please PM I would be willing to pay or do a free trade! I have lots of pups just tell me what your looking for. I currently have red iholena and Tigua. I'm looking for any other iholena pups! If they taste like Tigua you will not be desipointed!

Re: baker creek bananas [tc's]
Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but I've been busy. Our water well went out as I was coming home from our bananas on the coast day before yesterday and I had a VA appt yesterday. In this heat the bananas at home won't be happy if I don't get the well back on quickly! I've got the well pulled out, now to just replace the pump and motor and get it back in the hole.
Sad to say, the "Dwarf Iholena" from Baker Creek is growing s-l-o-w-l-y in contrast to the Tigua. Tigua seems to be very fast! On the bright side, my FHIA-21 plantain finally started pupping. It went from nothing to pupping like crazy! So I have one that I dug and potted if you want it. Since that "Dwarf Iholena" is the only one I have, I'm waiting for it to pup before I send you one. Maybe when I get the water back on I can make it hurry up! Then maybe I could send both at the same time. I'd like a Highgate and that SH3640 that you promised earlier. Remember?

Re: baker creek bananas [tc's]
Sorry! I know your busy! I wasn't trying to rush you. I was asking the whole forum for updates! I was just curious how these were doing for anyone that has them! Posting for the whole forum!
I was able to confirm Agristarts is producing these! So good chance it's the real deal! They also added 2 more Musa varieties this year! One is a Polynesian plantain! Other is a red ornamental. Should be pretty awesome also! I just hope they end up being good producers!

Re: baker creek bananas [tc's]
my tissue cultures from bakers creek are doing pretty well though my dwarf green is growing very slowly. The dwarf Orinoco, dwarf namwah, dwarf cavendish have grown like weeds and are about 3 feet tall. Bananas grow fast.

Re: baker creek bananas [tc's]
Baker Creek is notorious for outrageous claims to attract novice plant growers. In my opinion you should boycott the site.
