You can always try, at the end of the season, digging that stem with the banana bloom on it and potting it to keep somewhere where it won't freeze (basement). That stem will die from blooming anyway. I had a plant in a pot that had bananas on it at the end of the season, moved it into a basement, back out in the Spring and had ripe bananas.

Really, that's awesome. I will definitely keep that in mind for my Helen's Hybrids which actually produce (supposedly) edible bananas. I think I am not going to go through that with the basjoo seeing its really just for ornament. Though I really appreciate the info.

She's progressing nicely. Seems a little slow (not that I really know what to expect), but I gave her a bit of potassium and that seemed to cause a push

Yeah it will be fun to watch. I don’t really know what to expect, as they haven’t been pollinated so they they may just wither. But we do have at least 2 more months of warm-ish weather (September nights start to dip pretty low normally), so at least I will have a good idea of how they behave over basically a full growing season here. Who knows, maybe I’ll get seedless fruit

From what I have read, the female banana flower does not need to be pollinated to produce fruit. I would assume the bloom has already been pollinated as you have small bananas. You already have fruit so just needs to grow. I think as your bananas continue to grow, your blooms will drop off. I would continue to water and feed the plant.

Yeah, I think you are right about not needing pollination to produce fruit. I was more thinking that these bananas wouldn't develop any more than they already have (they are tiny, maybe 1-1.5 inches long) because there wouldn't be any seeds for the plant to grow and basjoos aren't genetically programmed to produce much pulp.

I do think, because the female and male flowers emerge at different times and I have no other source for pollination, they won't have been pollinated, and therefore will not produce any seed...maybe I am wrong....I hope so, I would love to get some seed.

I will definitely keep caring for the plant as usual. I am way too interested in learning about the process to stop now

They just need to have hot weather, fertilizer and water to grow. I'm guessing they still some time temperature-wise to grow. Maybe you are watching them too closely and don't notice them growing. "A watched pot never boils." Are you getting 'pups' off the corm for more plants?

I've never been accused of that before

And no, no new pups since flowering started. The bigger over wintered pups are growing relatively quickly though

End of season update

For perspective - a massive inflorescence

Still pumping out male flowers. As expected, no seeds in the shriveled bananas. There is still a green one hanging on though, not sure why.
