Re: Ripe Orinocos!
Brent et all! The orinoco cultivars vary in flavour - but our tall Orinocos when ripened on the plant, are the best flavoured fruit we have tried and grown.
Our Dwarf Orinocos don't even come close in terms of quality and flavour - I am thinking of removing them! When the fruit changes colour from yellow to orange, and feels soft to the squeeze, they are ready! Don't eat them before unless you are cooking them for tostones which they are very good for. I think this is the very best one for both cooking when green and delicious eating when ripe! We have folks in queues for ripe Orinocos! |

Re: Ripe Orinocos!
Jack - the dwarfs grow and fruit well, and are beautiful looking plants - but the fruit just doesn't taste as delicious as the tall ones. I am also getting short of space which is why I am looking at the plants I have critically, and seeing whether they justify their places. I find I am giving away large quantities of fruit that I don't really rate as good enough to eat myself - gave away a bunch of Saba yesterday that must have weighed over 100lbs - took 2 men to carry it. Haha! Just getting picky I guess!
