Ripe Orinocos!
 

I've been eating some of my Orinocos that have gotten too ripe to cook and man are they great!!! I'm so gonna be hating life when I have to go back to the crappy store bought one's. These are the one's I posted a pic of in my gallery a few weeks ago sitting atop my fridge waiting to ripen.

I made some great tostones out of some of them the other night and they were great as well. I took some pics of them as they were cooking and my wife heard the camera go off and she said: "What was that sound?" When I told her you could tell she really thought I'd gone off the deep end. Maybe I have, so what?! :D I'll try to post the pics soon.

Mine are just starting to show a sign of yellowing...I cant wait much longer!!!!! lol

You'll love them! When they turn a nice yellow and they yield to pressure when you squeeze them a bit that's when they are ready.

Is there a plant food that could help my otehr nanas to produce fruit? Tomato Miracle Gro maybe? Also, could that help my tree with the nanas..to hurry them up?

Silly question, but are Orinoco's a plantain or banana???? I've heard it's a plantain, but I've never seen anyone eat a raw ripe plantain... o_O
In PR we fry, roast, or bake green and ripe plantains (boil the green ones too).

Gabe wrote a while back on a different thread there's a difference between a plaintain and a cooking banana. I have no idea what can happen if you eat a plaintain raw & don't want to find out. I do know your not suppose to eat raw however. A cooking banana when ripe can be eaten. :^)

'Orinoco' is not a plantain. It can, however, be cooked when green and used like a plantain. As my original post mentioned, they are quite good as well when allowed to ripen well.

Congrats and thanks for posting! Orinoco is such a strong plant, I am glad to read that the fruit is good also!

Well, I like it. There may be others that are superior in taste but it's a good one for our area where we have to sometimes endure freezing temps.

Nice to see that people read also what was posted a long time ago. I missed this thread the first time I read the archive, but can clearly remember reading it in the second round.
