Pinwheel Need I’d for two banana plants

Hello all

I am new to this community and very happy to join this forum.

I love different varieties of banana. Back home, we had plenty available in farmers market. Not so much here in San Diego.

I have two banana plants at home now.

Plant 1 that flowered already this year. Details below.

Flower developed this past July. Banana’s towards top of flower are 4 inches long currently. Do the fruits continue to grow for another few months in length? Tree is about 6 ft tall till stem and 14 foot till top of leaves. Minimal wear/tear on leaves. Flowered after 2 1/2 years and planted as a small pup. Small pups of this banana have pinkish edges and midrib and stem too.

I am getting feedback from many that this is likely ornamental. Bought from Adam's tropicals. Here is link.https://www.adamtropics.com/exotic-f...ee-1498-detail

The nice nursery guy mentioned it will bear edible fruit when I asked multiple times and mentioned it is not the ornamental kind. I tend to trust what someone says affirmatively and want to give him benefit of doubt and not return it (also it is painful to return).Are. there any banana varieties which have ornamental leaves like this with reddish tint and stem that also bear fruit? Tid bit info..after planting, worms were munching on tendermost inner leaves of this pup. My other banana is way hardy and I didn’t expect this and was surprised!

The one in the ad is an Ensete. He didn't actually lie, it will bear fruit, just not anything that is edible.

Thanks for quick reply. He did mention in an email to my enquiry that it will bear edible fruit. I have now got multiple confirmation that it is ornamental. Thoughts on the other plant?

I was basing it on the fact that you said pinkish midrib, leaf edge, as well as color and shape of the inflorescence. I could not make out the color of the flowers, but the shape and size of the fruit look similar to namwah as well. Where did you get the plant?

Thanks much smeash. This is helpful. Color of the flower is maroonish.

This was planted by my landscaper and he could not tell me the variety!

Again, this is just my guess.. maybe someone else will be able to tell you with more certainty.. Either way, congratulations on the flower!!
