I am a new banana grower living in South Florida and since I do not have yard space decided to plant a Raja Puri in a pot (a little over a year ago).
It was doing great and had produced a nice blossom ( July) with cute little green bananas but the hand has not grown or changed color. We have had a lot of rain in the past six weeks and the entire plant is looking pretty sad. Help!! |

My Raja Puri is in the ground, and it is huge. It is the biggest mat of bananas that I have, and I have 35 different bananas. Planting a pot might keep it from reaching its full potential and from having enough energy to fruit well, but I'm not an expert by any means. The rain is probably great for the banana. It does seem to take a long time for my Raja Puri fruit to ripen, and even then, the fruit is very small.

It's near impossible to guess without a better look-see. (I'm guessing the pot may be the problem, too, but it's only a vague guess.)

My not Ice Cream bloomed in the end of March and still took 6 months for the fruit to mature.

Isn't it natural for bananas to take forever to ripen? I hear Saba can take 11 months.

Well it depends on the variety. I do know that red bananas take a while.
