Hi Everybody,
I have had a Banana tree in my back yard for about 22 years, and most years it had no Bananas. This year I have a few, and they are green, but next week is Thanksgiving, and I plain on eating them then. ![]() I am here to learn more about how to grow, and produce Bananas for myself, and others to eat. Anyway, I am a 4th Generation Texan, so if you have Texas Questions, go ahead and ask. I am 60, and I do some, (as in rarely) Voice Acting, for Free, to help some friends make Modifications for Computer Games. I have helped a few times to Voice for School projects, or just to record for fun. I got a Texan Accent, but I'm fast. So if you want, I can record something for you, for fun. I am Retired, and been married to my Wife for 36 years. I have 2 grown Girls, one is married, and lives in Atlanta, and the other is going to U. Of Washington in Seattle, working on her Masters in Music, Opera. If you like Opera, so do I. I have done some regular things, like I worked a long time in a Chemical Plant, and then later I was a Teacher of World Geography, sold Toyotas for a while, and worked selling Kayaks, in a small shop. I have a 17' Sea Kayak. I also have done a few things that are not so regular. I learned to Fly back in the '80s, and flew Competition Aerobatics and owned a Pitts-S 1-C, for 3 years. I am a Kayaker, and have paddled around the Bayous, and Galveston Bay, and off the Beach at Galveston. Fun stuff. I can teach Kayaking, but have not gone out in a long time. I like to play Computer Games, what I am playing these days is Fallout-4, and Skyrim-SE. So if your a Gamer, let me know. Mr. K

What variety is your banana? Most bananas are not good green, but a few could be cooked. Please post a picture of the plant and a close up of the bunch.

Thanks Everybody, I feel Welcome.
Austin, is the Capital of Texas, but it used to be Houston, then before that a little town named Washington on the Brazos. Yep, I have some kind of Banana Tree, and the fruit is green, but the weather is turning cool. So I will pick them, and let them ripen inside. The many shoots are about 10 feet tall, all on one plant, in a ring, about 10 feet around. I will take a picture so Y'all can identify it. When I have eaten Bananas off this plant, they taste different than what you can get at the store, firm, and tasty. Mr. K ![]()

Welcome aboard the Banana Express.
![]() I've been through your state many times on 10, 20 and 40. An Idahoan, a Californian and a Texan were having a few beers, when the Idahoan says, "Y'know, in Idaho, we grow potatoes the size of footballs." The Californian says, "Like, well, in the Napa Valley, we like, grow grapes the size of baseballs." The Texan says, "Hey y'all, I don't mean to brag, but the other morning I got up and went outside for a smoke, and thirteen crows landed in a line on my peter." The Idahoan looked crestfallen and said, "Y'know, I guess our potatoes aren't really as big as footballs." The Californian grimaces and says, "And in Cali, our grapes don't like, really get as big as baseballs either. The Texan nods accommodatingly and admits, "Come to think of it Boys, that last crow was standing on one foot." As you can see, we're all about bananas on here, but we also have a sense of humor. Welcome to the forums.

OK, Snarkie, that's a new one on me, must be a Texas Joke from Boston, they don't understand. Yep, I've been to Boston 2, or 3 times, and they don't understand anything to do with Texas, kind of like most people that have never been here, and stayed more than a few weeks, just to get a taste of what we really are.
Image of my Tree; For reference the edge of the roof is 9 feet 6 inches, or about 3 meters. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0F...ew?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0F...ZjOVVmMFE/view https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/ea...isyb226e6g.jpg ![]() The Fruit is green, and they are about 4-1/2 X 1-3/4 inches, or 12cm X 4.5cm. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0F...ew?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0F...hkTTRVQUk/view https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/3f...s12kmc6z6g.jpg ![]() ![]() These images where taken yesterday. When I have had Bananas from this Tree in years past; the flesh was firm, and the taste was very good, but different than what is available at any grocery store. Got any ideas about what type of Bananas these are? The weather is getting cooler here, and I would like to eat them this week. Any opinions on if they will ripen inside in less than a week? Or should I let them get rip 1st. Mr. K PS: OK, I tried to post the images, but using the "Insert Image" does not post the image, but using the "URL" gives a link, and that will let anybody look, but you have to click the link. What am I doing wrong, I have posted many pictures on other sites, and some times it's tricky. OK, I posted the 1st image in my Gaming Blog, then copied the link here, that worked. Next I used HTML to add the code to the 2nd image, and that worked too. I had to use the "Direct Link" from MediaFire. Tricky

Yeah, IDK anything about Boston. Yankees don't understand Southern humor though.

Weird, I used My Google Drive share link, no-go. Used my MediaFire share link, no-go. I copied the link 2, or 3 different ways, and still no-go. I used the Image button, and not used the Image button, I need a Moderator, to look at my Post in the Editor, so they can see my links, and give me a hint. Please.
Mr. K

Yep it's a Musa, but witch variety?
After reading a lot more, I will let them ripen on the tree, or until we get some cold weather... Cold? That may be next year, so letting them ripen is the way to go. I found an old picture of a flower from this same plant, from 2012. ![]() By the way, I just measured the stalk with the fruit on it, and at the base, it is 7 inches across. Mr. K
