Hello from St Augustine FL
A newbie, I joined because I have some great looking banana plants and this is the first year that I've got a bunch starting. It is just one plant producing 1 bunch, but pretty exciting. We have many healthy looking plants, but over the past 10 years they haven't really ever produced anything. Getting ready to retire so will have some time to take better care and learn something more about them.
Looking forward to gaining some knowledge here. thanks. |

Re: Hello from St Augustine FL
Hey! Check out the bananas at the Ripley's Museum some time. Last time I was there(last year) they had a Lot of bunches hanging(the plants are outside in the courtyards, so you don't even have to pay to go inside the museum, although it's kind of fun too).
Good luck with your bunches! |

Re: Hello from St Augustine FL
Thanks for the welcome. Now for some serious business. I saw a picture of a bunch of bananas in MediaHound's photo album. I'm guessing I need to address some problem here. The picture below is the bunch I have, but it looks pretty sorry. My soil is sandy, live near the ICW and beach, many pine trees, so I imagine pretty acidic. My plants produce lots of pups and I cut them and transplant successfully. Give some away. Just don't produce. If anyone has any ideas about what I can do to encourage fruit. Anyway, great forum here and thanks again. Oh, and I have no idea what kind of bananas these are...
