Hello from Canada and a little question about indoor growing!

Hey!

I got my first banana (dwarf cavendish) in March, and my second (Basjoo) in April, and I'm going bananas for them. Nights are starting to get a bit cold here in Atlantic Canada, so I have dug my bananas up and placed them in pots, and I was just curious if anyone had any tips for growing them indoors?

outside of bananas, I'm really interested in growing carnivorous plants like Nepenthes and Utricularia!

Give them as much sun and artificial light as possible. water sparingly, 10 days or so, do not fert at all, try to keep away from cold blasts when the door opens, expect some of the leaves to die, the warmer the better, under 60 degrees they wont thrive no matter what.
if you give them enough light and heat they will continue to grow all winter long, still careful on watering.

watch out for small bugs on the under leaves, the sooner you see them, if you get them, the easier it will be to wipe them off. neem oil etc and warm water gently wipe with soft cloth, good luck. it is very worth it!!!

Hey! Congrats on your new banana trees! Yes definitely be careful about watering! God knows how many plants I’ve lost from over watering! I’ve fertilized mine once in a while over the winter! They did great! Keep the temps over 55 degrees. 6-12 hours of sun as well. Here’s a trick I learned... In order to regrow roots after transplanting cut all the leaves off but the unfurled leaf (one that hasn’t opened yet). Hope that helps! Plus just enjoy your plants!

What province are you in? We have many carnivorous plants here in NC, and SC as well. The acidic peat bogs along the coast have allowed them to develop. Many, like the Venus flytrap, grow nowhere else in the world indigenously.
