I have never grown bananas. I live on the border of zone 7/8 in NC and have just ordered Musa Sikkimensis seeds from GA vines.

I have never received banana seeds before so all I can say is that the shipping was superfast and only two of the seeds floated if that means anything. I ordered the Daj Giant and the Helen's Hybrid. I am hoping these will do goo with little to no protection over next winter.

So far I have just soaked them for two days. 48 hours was recommended on the package, unless this was just a generic recommendation. I am open to input from people that have had these varieties.
Hi!
Banana Seed Germination Forum (http://www.bananas.org/f30/)
there are two threads there about Daj Giant and the Helen's Hybrid.
here is what i do:
-soaking 4 days (with 1g/l epsom salt if you have)
-coco soil in closed pot. (to keep humidity)
alternate temp night/day for these seeds. (ex: sunny windows)
Good luck with the seeds

Thanks, I think I do have some epsom salt around the house. I already put them into some moist peat moss in a shallow pot. Do you think I should take them out and soak them longer?
you can try to soak longer half of your seeds and see if it is better.
if the seeds are fresh you will have germination within a 8 weeks.
(but this is not a rule, can take longer)

Well I have an ensete ventricosum sprout now and a possible sikkimensis sprout which may just be one of my very large canna seeds since they look similar and were germinating in the same soil. I don't want to disturb the roots yet to find the seed coating that is attached.

I have found that plants are on their schedule ..............not ours.
Never will be!!!!!
I have had fern spores that have taken after 18 months ..
That is why I am getting a gray hair or two. LOL!!
Happy Gardening!!:)
