So much to choose from!
How to peel a banana properly, and how to build a bunch prop, spring immediately to mind, but I'd say more the general knowledge base about all the wonderful bananas out there is what really makes this site great.

It is hard to say, there's so much I have learned about varieties, and care of bananas. If I had not learned about propping bananas and had my first stalk break, I would have been very sad. So that might be most important.

Well this is a hard one. Its all important. But the one thing that is really helping me so far is the fact that bananas are tougher than what I thought they were. I have been worring to much about my banana plants but im finding out they are real tough.

after the first few winters i stopped worrying about my bananas as much too... especially the Orinoco that i thought was basjoo.:ha: i did not do anything to protect it this year since it took the snow last year. i didnt have to do any propping at all because i only got a stress bloom after i pruned suckers ..maybe propping will be useful next year??

No doubt the best thing about this site is the people here. Some come and go, some have been lost. The exchange of info and friendships made by people across the country and around the world is worth more than what we probably all came here for in the first place which is hard to find anywhere else banana growing and cultivating information. Great place to be.:woohoonaner:

yep i have been here for a year now and i have to say at first some folks came off as a bit arrogant some even a bit eccentric..but once you get to chatting most people are ok. no matter how many people you disagree with or how many times you fall out... its just a matter of time before you remember why you came here in the first place, and that's to share information and learn.

no matter what your educational level or years of experience with plants, we all learn things from each other no matter how significant or insignificant..

I agree that the site is good and the people are great. The best information I have received so far was from Tog. I had just joined the org and I was freaking out about a Basjoo I had purchased.

Take it easy, some plants react differently to a change when repotted or in your case, grounded. It looks very healthy so there should be no problems with it. All the best.

I am very grateful to the many people here who take the time to explain what they are thinking about and how they perceive things. It's really been a joy to meet you all.

Re: whats the best information you received from this site so far?

Everything I know about bananas I learned here. I've learned so much about dirt and fertilizer. I've gained acceptance that I can't always grow what I want until I get a greenhouse.

There are people here that I value dearly and depend upon to answer my questions and I should probably let them all know as I know that most would never know that I hold them in such high esteem and everyone needs a pat on the back now and then.

I came here as a firm believer that I couldn't grow anything without chemicals. Now I worry about the bee population and even appreciate the black jumping spiders that infest my nanas as I know they're eating bad bugs. (I'm terrified of spiders) I've learned the importance of organic food, the thrill of looking up at all those amazing banana plants, how to spot things that go wrong with my plants and how to fix them.

I learned that a banana will seperate into three segments if you punch it on the end :ha: Yeah, I went right into the kitchen and tried it! And then I did it again and again to show family and friends as they came around!

It's almost spring time!

Tough question but if I had to narrow it down to just one piece of information I'd say it's the info from Gabe that my Pisang Klotek is in the Mysore group. That is a question that has been eating at me for a long time and I seriously doubt I would have learned this anywhere else. :)

Aside from how to grow bananas years ago, very recently is what Mitchel (Momese) taught me how to use my new Camera. Mitchel patiently showed me step by step how to use my camera in action pictures.
For many years I've been satisfied keeping blurry pictures of my kids doing their favorite sports growing up. And Mitchel taught me the right way finally. My regret is I should have asked this question here years ago.
Thanks Mitchel and the banana forum.

Thanks Mitchel and the banana forum.

The camera thread has gotten me excited also. I talked to my husband about it and we both want to take down notes of what to buy from that thread, go shopping and follow the instructions. Pictures are so important and we had also resigned ourselves without really realizing it to blurry, non exciting photos.

Yes, each one of us here have interaction that is seldom show in other forums. Each one of us learn from the the posts of the others. I for one learn so much here and I have files that i saved throughout the years. From time to time I go there when I have problems with my bananas and other things.

And that is the reason why this forum is successful. Having the right to print what is someone's mind and if someone has a problem on something, like me for instance about cameras. This forum is successful because of the varied members throughout the world who contribute one way or another be it pictures or their expertise on the subject. This forum not only entertains but gains knowledge from.

Follow up:
What excited me the most to buy my camera was Mitchel's pictures of his puppies on "Reminder about offensive content" . The pictures were so stunning that I told myself by hook or by crook I'm going to get that camera. And so I did.
I am now enjoying the pictures I took from my son's basketball games. Not only me but my whole family. I am also now eager to go to his basketball games to take pictures (and movies) because of my years lost oppurtunities before owning the camera.
Without this forum, I will never know.........
