Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread
Had a great time with friends. Fished a new area (the one pictured above) to make it more convenient for everyone and it payed off. My friends scored 14 BSP ranging from dinks to 13" and fat!
I was targeting Halibut but got a Leo and a couple nice BSP. I tried a lot of things today including drop shotting camo crack wich produced my biggest BSP of the day. Here is the Leo, about 3 feet. All the critters were successfully released. ![]() |

If lived down that way I'd be here all the time. I see the nice fresh stuff he posts on Facebook all the time. Drives me nuts!

That was over two years ago. I'm sure if there were any persisting issues they have been shut down or fined.
Btw in watching some of the videos I've see and heard how crazy they are about cleaning everything. Maybe Tommy is kicking some butt over there. |

We have Santa Monica Seafood here, been going there for years. They also cater to the local eateries. A little pricey though.

Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread
Now I know how to clean an octo puss. Will keep one next time I snag one bottom fishing. Great stuff in a marinara sauce.
Can anybody tell me who makes that big curved fillet knife the pro in the video uses? I got to get a decent one. Almost forgot --- went to Jensen yesterday looking for pompano with Docs Goofy Jigs.. All the regulars, that were still there, were PO'ed at the newspaper fishing column again. They keep saying how great the pomps are doing but only 3 were caught all morning. Me - zip! Last 2 offshore tourneys caught and released over 900 sails - again. All time Sail fishing records have been broken twice this season. Guys in small boats are catching cobia in 50 ft of water - amazing. |

Went for a couple hours this morning. Waves are pounding, strong surge, current pulling south, and I forgot my jacket! Nada, zip, zilch. One hook up that I farmed and a few nibbles. Might try again tomorrow for Leopard Sharks seeing how I saw several large ones in the skinny. Nice sunrise if nothing else!

Insane Striper fishing in Montauk. I guess NBC sports played the whole episode a few times.

Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread
Those Montauk guys are insane. There are some guys who freedive spearfish there for cow striped bass in conditions that are about as unsafe as you can imagine. Currents that are about 4 times as fast as anyone can swim against, standing 6' waves, and practically no visibility. They get huge fish. Make that guy's whopper look like a guppy.

Mark have you ever dove at Leo Carrillo? If so ever see any big halibuts there?
Is it dove or dived? |
Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread
Tony no reports from you lately. No fishing?

I think in terms of proper English, it is "dived", but most people say "dove". But in writing, you start to wonder if they like birds. |

I'll be out there on Sunday morning tossing hard baits for Halibuts. They seem to be everywhere right now, maybe looking for new born BSP? Grunions are coming soon too. |
