I'm going to buy a mini greenhouse at Aldi on 3/9. I suspect it's more of a coldframe because of the size; I would have been thrilled to have one when I lived in MD because I never could get used windows to work for me. I'm going to use mine for seed starting here. No, I don't work for the company and am going to study the package before spending money but I think it might be a good buy. (You can buy replacement covers on Amazon in the UK; they don't ship here. Yet...)

I thought Aldi was a food place, like publix but cheaper.

Aldi is a food place but more. It's an established German grocer that's come to the US; prices are very good as is their guarantee. They also sell some non food things. I picked up a multifunction oscillating tool for $18 a few weeks ago; my BIL down visiting from MD was impressed with it.
Their imported chocolate is to die for! Anyway I think I have a use for this non grocery item and thought I'd mention it to the group.

I've been following Harbor Freight's greenhouses for years, and actually tried to buy the 10'x12' size 3 years ago but they were out of stock. Right now they're on sale for $679.99. If you can get their 20% off coupon, that will bring it down to $543.99. When I tried to buy it, the price was around $500.
Garden Greenhouse - 10 Ft. X 12 Ft. Greenhouse With 4 Vents The 6'x8' size is $299.99, so with 20% off coupon, it will be $238.99. Small Greenhouse Kit - 6 Ft. x 8 Ft. They even offer an automatic vent opener for just $25.99, or $21.59 with coupon. I believe that they have a smaller one (6'x6') for $99.99. How much is the Aldi version? Chong |

My mom loves her harbor freight green house. It bashed in from snow this year though but it was extreme.

I don't really need a greenhouse unless I want to grow tropicals which I don't. The Aldi version is not a greenhouse and not even a hoop house. Gardenline 4-Tier Greenhouse - Aldi Weekly Ad - Titusville It's tiny. It would work to start seeds in zone 9 and maybe 8 but would behave like a coldframe I suspect in lower zones.
Up north I set seed trays on my radiators in front of sunny windows but here I've had issues starting seeds inside (not enough light and no rads). Outside in plastic containers (think wintersowing/very mini greenhouses) it's been too chilly by a few degrees for not erratic germination. Sure, seeds may come up fine eventually but our spring season is very short so you have to hit the road running in March with plants not sprouts. I think this might get me over the hurdle even if I had to cover it on a few nights.
