Will the plants that are under water survive when it drys ? A lot of rain here also and it will probably continue for a few more days but the winds will slow some. Good luck and keep those hands dirty.

I think they will be OK as long as the water doesn't stay there too long.

We were under tornado warning most of the day earlier. Tornados damaged 30 homes in Vero and ripped the roof off one in Palm City. Too close to home. The outer band ribbon ran in line with the same cities from Miami up to Sebastian for like 7 hours of non stop rain and lightning. Lightning strikes in the hundreds. Many areas have severe flooding in homes and businesses for the first time ever. Amazing that the power or TV cable never cut out thrououghout it all. One of my favorite news pics was of a neighborhood in the Acerage where the kids and adults are playing in the flood water running and floating in inner tubes ---- in an area with only septic tanks. Flooded out septic tanks!!! Palooshun playground!!!
The smaller one of the Ae Ae cracked all of its leaves at the pstem but is still upright. Might grow back ok. Everything else was undamaged. BTW – found a new flower on the D Brazilian when tieing them up. That’s a total of 4 bunches hanging now. Finally stopped raining this evening! Last edited by bananimal : 08-28-2012 at 12:49 AM. |

Stay safe everyone and I hope your properties are ok. As for bananas - they can stand a lot of water and when we had 11 inches of rain in 24 hours - there was standing water for quite a while and they were fine. I think that if the temperature is warm, they can cope. We even have an Orito growing where the swimming pool filter pumps out so that is always damp to say the least. Good luck all!!

Hurricane Issac is gone and so far I have not seen a lot of damage. My part of NW FL did some rain, but not a lot of rain. My one little banana plant is still standing and after advice from darkman this coming november I will prepare for the onset of winter with the hope of getting bananas next yr.

Turned from hot summer weather (upper 90s) yesterday to fall weather (79F forecast high) for today. Feels nice! Much more pleasant to be harvesting chestnuts in the cooler weather!
