Of course there are; this is FL! I'm not that far from you but rarely tackle Orlando traffic to visit Winter Haven unless I have a really, really, really good reason. I believe there are 1 or 2 members in my town; they're not very active and we haven't met.
If you're looking to pick up bananas that do well in your zone/area, check out Craigslist. If someone is selling a Blue Java/Ice Cream know that they probably really aren't; they have a Namwah in their stash. If you have space for mysteries (most peeps really don't know what they have because they got theirs from someone who "said what it was" but it wasn't) and the price is cheap ($5 per pup), take a chance and buy it; when it flowers post pictures here and you'll find out what you really have. I've only met 1 member from the forum but I'm a shy, retiring wallflower... ![]()

All I have right now are many Brazilian type pups. They sure can take the cold, though. Free if you pick them up.

What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more. |

I just replanted my contraband plantation last year and I'm hoping to get a decent yield this year fingers crossed!
Kat2 is correct about 99% of ice cream nana is actually Namwah. I have a 5ft plant struggling in the questionable sand as we speak. The person I got it from has an entire crop of true Blue Java nanas. The bananas are not silver blue, they are undeniably blue java. |
