One of my very young mango seedlings (3 years old) is blooming! It suffered no damage in the freezes, while some of the other trees (also in pots) near it received leaf and twig damage. I raise them under disease pressure which is another means of culling the ones that don't make the grade.
This one shows some promise. ![]() |

I love the 4 seasons up in New England
But the gardener in me really wishes we were further South Tulips, small grape hyacinth & daffodils are still blooming Star of David buds are starting to break thru & should bloom shortly Some of the Lupines are pretty big so I may get some early flowers this year And of course the invasion of the black eyed susans' is under way Each year I weed out thousands of seedlings This year looks like a bumper crop |

![]() ![]() This is Guaiacum sanctum and I like it the best. It's younger and is a better bloomer. Both species have a lot of seed. But I was first before it grows it must go through a bird. I have never seen a seedling under my trees. I have been told that special trees will germinate under the tree. |

Thank you Jnstropic!!
I purchased mine from Florida keys Native Nursery. None of the seeds from last year have germinated. But I think I can develop a low mole acidic solution that imitates an avian digestive track. Actual bird poop may help! I grow it because it is Native and its endangered, so I will help the species survive! Thank you for your insight! ![]() |

Coloosamusa ,local conditions are good!
Growing from seeds from a fellow gardener in Venezuela : Calabaza (or Calabasa) is an old Spanish term that can be applied to a variety of gourds and melons. It is derived from the Persian term for melon (kharbuz). The French term "calabase", and hence "calabash" is based on the older Spanish. In common use the French term "calabash" refers to a gourd native to the African continent, while "calabaza" refers to a gourd native to the Americas. In North America, the word "calabaza" refers to any of several species of tropical gourds of the genus Cucurbita. Two common species native to the Caribbean are C. moschata and C. maxima. The widespread species C. foetidissima specifically identifies "calabaza" as one of its common names. The Spanish "calabacera frasco" [literal translation; bottle-shaped gourd] refers specifically to C. foetidissima. Local names for "large green or yellow gourds" include "auyama" (Venezuela), "ayote" (Central America), "abóbora" (Brazil), and "zapallo" much of South America. [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG] |

Hi, my sister sent me Madagascar palm seeds from her tree in texas. Does anyone have
information on how to germinate and how long it takes for them to sprout? They seem to have pollen mixed in with them. Should they be soaked. Thanks Raggedy |
