It's probably a dumb question for those who live further south but what is this plant ? It was left out on the curb a few years ago and I just saw it as a new friend and took it home. it has been a problem at times and was almost given back to the curb at least once, now it's doing well and I just can't find it in any searches on the net. I want to make sure I am giving it what I can as far as it's needs, so help, it gets along so well with all the other tropicals.

Certainly looks like a loquat. They are subtropical, and they grow and fruit prolifically here.

I thought the leaves were a little to off for loquat (too much of a saw tooth) but then, I have never seen one before, except in picture form. It's hard to tell with the pics on the net and my eyes.
Thanks for the ID I will treat it as such.

Loquat. They grow and bear fruits here in Seattle. My neighbor has one in a 10-gal pot. Then there's a large bushy tree in Chinatown that I've seen bear fruit in late October many years in a row, and another in South Park, near the Boeing buildings in front of an Italian restaurant. If you're in zone 8 or higher, you can plant that outside.
I had one in pot that grew to about 6 feet, but died when it was neglected while I was working out of state. I now have a couple of them, about 2 feet tall, that are in 1 gal pots. I will plant them outside in the Spring as soon as I find a good spot in the yard for them. |

It could be an ornamental loquat, which has more pronounced ridges on the leaves. But to me it looks more like the edible kind.

Looks like the Faluchi Loquat. Large leaves with serrated leaf margins.
Check out the pics in this thread. Cocktail Loquat |

Mine are blossoming right now, kind of early from when they "usually" blossom (Nov - Jan).
Last year the blossoms got clobbered by a couple very early frosts, one in Nov., which was very unusual for around here.
