Wow I thought you lived in a tropical climate from your pics. That's really cold. I think the lowest it got here this winter may have been 11 F. Your palm is beautiful. What temperature is it hardy to? Thats so sad what happened to your plant. I lost quite a few things that were suppose to be hardy this year lol

OK, I need some help here guys. It was in a group of succulents that I have pictured previously, and none were labeled. They were just listed on the label as "Water Conserving Plants". I think this first one is Hatiora gaertneri which I believe the common name is Easter or Spring cactus:



Now this one is labeled as a "Sunrise Cactus" which is a registered trademark name and its blooms burst open each day with the rays of the morning sunrise and the sunlike flowers of the Sunrise® Cactus also close at the end of each day after sunset. They say it is Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri and native to Brazil and South American jungles and live on trees like certain orchids. This one is also called Easter and Spring cactus though not like the first one at all.



These are close ups of the seed pods which I will share if anyone is interested in them. I do not know if they will produce or anything yet. I believe these pods will turn yellow as they "ripen".



I have been Googling trying to learn more about these, but I am not for sure I have correctly named the first one. It is much thicker and has more of an upright growth to it than the Zygo related ones. I am hoping some of you that are more familiar with them can help me. Thanks!

OK here is a new one I just got a couple of days ago and I just LOVE this thing. It is a variegated leaf desert rose! And the coolest thing is - it has a solid green branch, a branch that is totally white, one that is 50 % green and white, and one that is green with a white outline. YES, all on one plant. Soooooooo cool!

Iwish Willow, we get those plants (small Ice plants) from Tenerife. The palms you buy online. I recently bought a lovely Fir.


The icicles that fell from the shed roof in the winter sun froze as soon as it hit the fleece

And Willow stay clear of those very long icicles I heard a man died last year, it stabbed his neck.

You luicky sugar lolol So while England froze, and turned up the heating, you were almost sweating your cods off.


Cycas are not too softies to be honest, look after them and they do ok. Its the Canary Island date Palm thats more suseptable to cold. Mind you if you have a large conservatory then your good to go.

You can also grow palms as a home plant.

Janas, I believe you plant is a Plumera, well lol its caudex looks like a Plumera.

It's Adenium obesum, orinoko, aka desert rose. I would love to have a variegated plumeria though, I will one day! It does look a lot like one in the pictures angle though. Let me see if I can get a better side shot. It shows the graft pretty well in this picture also.

Thats beautiful Janan! I wish it were a milder here. I dont like this hot weather at all LOL. I like cold weather as long as its not bitterly cold.

I did do one from seed, no Idea why it died. It popped ok was looking great then..gone.

Apparently they are difficult to bring to flowering stage.

It's a high end nursery that sells all sorts of plants, containers, amendments, etc. They have 4 big green houses. Tons of orchids and stuff.

Mine flower reliably each summer. Many people make the mistake of hardly watering during the summer. Water as for any blooming plant. During winter (for me, inside) I water sparingly. I'd love a variegated one. There are so many flower types now, you could specialize solely in obesums!

It appears that the variegated part has been grafted in, and that the growth with the solid green leaves is coming from the natural base of the plant. In my experience, the green leaf, being the natural branch, will become stronger to the point that all the grafted in pieces will eventually be starved for nutrients from the rest of the plant, and will eventually die. If it was my plant, I'd chop the green branch off completely, and I'd also chop any new branches that crop up below the graft. I've seen fruit trees with grafted branches that will do precisely as I've described - the natrual branch will receive all the strength from the root-stock, and all the grafts will eventually be sloughed off and die. The problem can be 'nipped-in-the-bud' if you act quickly, if not I'd bet my next paycheck that you will lose the variegated parts.

Caught a good sale the other day and bought a few new plants. These are the succulents I bought. This first one is called "Baby Toes" I think you can see why. I think it is so adorable! Official name is Ficoidaceae-Aizoaceae Fenestraria Rhopalophylla.
