Got seed? Everytime I go to a place called 'ButterflyWorld' they are always out of what I am interested in.

I have also ordered seed from other Seed Companies on-line, and it also came in with no problems, no permit, and was clearly marked as seeds. |

Re: Passiflora
Ebay seller (Please note: No shipping of plants to destinations outside of the U.S., and no shipping of Passiflora plants or seeds to Hawaii.)
|
Re: Passiflora
Well, I ordered it, it was sent, and there was no problem. Perhaps it is permitted under certain conditions. The seed had no parts of the plant with it, and they looked quite dry. I already know not to attempt to order any P. mollissima since it is considered a pest here. We already have P. suberosa, P. mollissima, P. quadrangularis, P. edulis (yellow and purple) growing here. If you don't wish to, I understand; I'm just saying I've ordered from legitimate companies, and gotten seeds. One company just last week sent me a seed catalogue for another order. (heirloomseeds.com)
Oh, regarding ebay, some folks just don't want to bother sending to Hawaii. Also, I don't buy stuff of ebay anyway. If I wish to order something, I check to see if they say no shipping to Hawaii, or only ship to the continental US, or just to the contiguous states (which excludes Hawaii and Alaska). Some places just don't wish to bother with it since it is easier for them not to do so, not necessarily because it would have been illegal. I'm not trying to get anyone in hot water, and I don't work for the 'Ag' dept., I'm just trying to grow something besides all the p. suberosa, and p. edulis that is all around my garden. |

Re: Passiflora
I hear you. My friend just bought a house near us and I'm envisioning all the plants I could plant in his yard! But I don't think he'll go for that. And he doesn't like passionfruit.

Maybe, but unfortunely that depends on local politicans. They all just talk about that but all stops when they need to support domestic production :(

If you think about the difference in tastes between different species of citrus, then it makes sense that passiflora can have a wide variation as well.

Re: Passiflora
I love reading the taste description comparisons. Post up more as you all get to sample. I've only ever tasted a frederich(i believe that's what it was).
Side note, does anyone have some creative suggestions on how to retrellis and/or repot this: When we bought the two starter plants i had no idea they would grow so much this winter. We got them in half gallon or one gallon pots, and they were maybe 2feet of vine. Since then we just keep wrapping and wrapping the vines down and around but this summer i have a feeling it's going to explode with even more growth! -Luke |

Re-potting is no problem just pull the root-ball out and stick it in a bigger pot. |

Re: Passiflora
I have a couple of incarnata vines which I overwinter indoors too. I trim mine back (they grow like crazy) and when I do, I try to root the cuttings since so many local folk have been asking for plants. So don't toss out the cuttings… try rooting them.

Re: Passiflora
How extensive are the root systems? I'm wondering if i'll need to repot it in the spring to get ready for the summer growth.
Thanks all. Passion vines are one of my new favorites, i just love the growth that they put on Tony - i have two seedling passiflora growing right now, from the seed packets you sent me. i limited myself to just two more for fear that if i sprouted more they would take over the whole house(anyone remember in jumanji hahha). And of COURSE, i lost the plant tags i had with them so i don't even know which two seedlings i kept haha. i guess i'll know if they ever flower :-P -Luke |
