Congrats Howard!!!!! Well done! Funny how you just never know when they're going to flower, especially in our cooler climates. Keep posting pictures , I want to watch the whole process. Mine got huge before it flowered but I never got to watch it since the bud came so late in the season.

( oh and.... I want some of the seeds of E. Glaucum var. "Saltydad"!)

I have a DC blooming finally. I joined this website in fall last year and have been caring for my bananas a lot more. They were ignored before but now I feed and water them regularly. I am hoping this bunch is a reasonable size.

My first banana to bloom. It is a dwarf Brazilian, and p-stem is about 7ft. It should be just
the right height to harvest with no problems.

This is about 10 days after I first noticed the pointed cone of the bud starting to poke out.

I have 3 Cuban reds I planted late last year/ early 2011. How long did it take to get your bunch of reds? I hear it is about 2 years. How tall is the p stem? My oldest plant is about 6 feet now but was about 4 ft when it was given to me. The cool thing about that plant is that it has already produced two suckers!

Bob, I swear mine is actually shrinking or sinking into the ground! I'll have to get shots of the entire plant!

Thanks SoBe.
Here is a pic of my three reds, the oldest is to the right of the trash can and is already 7ft high:

Another Manzano flower, two so far this summer.

My Dwarf Cavendish is pointing down now and exposing some flowers. The flower is very long, I hope that translates too many large bananas!

Here are a couple of newer photos of my dwarf Brazilian blooming. The bud looks like it has gotten fatter since I first saw it.

This plant is not the 'Jamaican Red'/'Cuban Red'/'Dwarf Red' (which are all the same). Unfortunately, I've been trying to figure out just exactly what it is for a long time, and have shown photos to many experts and no one seems to have any real idea about it. It is quite common though in nurseries and botanic gardens all over the US.

One idea is that it is the 'Sumatrana x Gran Nain', which is itself somewhat of an enigma, but I'm not totally convinced that's what it is.

Sigh... I hope to produce bananas on my plants one day. This is actually a pic of my William Hybrid (not a naner producer I know). It died last winter. But I have 2 CA Golds that are getting nice and big.
