It does work, it just needed to rot down a little bit before I planted the tree. If you bury the squash high enough, you havealsoplanted the groundcover.

Here's my current update
I'm still in the race... but mine is still potted up
Have been keeping it away from getting the grueling Texas sun all day
It's doing very well and putting out these giant leaves that are bigger than the stem itself
I will have to put it in the ground soon at this rate though

Now that the weather has cooled down just a bit the time finally came to get it down on the ground!

It had the biggest and fattest roots I've ever seen on a pup I've transplanted from a pot - and it was in an 8ga!
It has a nice thick stem and has put out tons of big boy leaves

I put it in a nice fertile spot in my yard next to my Orinocos
Here's a comparison with the beautiful morning sun just coming in



I wonder how big it'll get before winter hits...
