Banana Gallery - Sept_6_-09_010

excuse me i have recived many many banana plants from the US and each one has had this customs note , why do you think ii would be lieing about this ? there is the full note for customs card. with my name address and so on . I have not been buying plants from websites ie: going bananas, because i need that cirtificate which costs 50 dollars and i dont want to spend that money for a few plants i can buy from very nice members on here.

I have other packages i can take pics of that do have the green one on it like from eric i still have boxes with the thing still on it. I told my parents about this little problem with you and they said its not worth talking abiout this with you , you say all my pics are fake. i have had it with you Eric know im not lying and the main Guy Jarred the owner on this site sent me a plant last Dec. I Dont know why you are acting this way but its gotta stop or you should leave the form , comming in here saying im lying about haveing nanners sent from the US. you are nuts , i think you should give up because i have not lied about one thing since iv'e been on this site same time as you , but i go on every day un like you.

I dont know what your problem is.

Matt

I'll be 49 in a month so no one can call me kid. For the record anything over a certain weight I believe 6lbs must be declared on a commercial customs form whether you are a business or not......less than that a different form.
Why call all this attention to the issue? What's the beef? There's too much nastiness going around and for what? I thought we were all banana growers looking to help each other..........THAT is the spirit of this place and should remain so.

Eric.........well spoken kid!

Wolfebc: The purpose of this site is Friendly discussion & humour. Minors, such as Matt, should Never visit here under threat of personal "character" assault. Members should be treated with courtesy & patience. Regardless of age, obviously vicious slurs on personal character should be avoided at all times.

I hadn't seen the box again after the day I mailed it. You can verify this through the U.S. Postal Service branch in Norman, Oklahoma (it is the only branch in Norman).
1-800-275-8777. it's a toll-free phone number, there is no charge.
Look at Matt's Avatar then again at these pics that Matt took the day the box arrived. Notice the similarities between the 2 photos (especially the furniture). Notice also the Toronto Star newspaper strewn about the table.

This is a Valid case of a package being sent to Newmarket Canada by me by USPS & as a "Live Plant". The above phone number can verify that. While speaking with them, ask if there are any restrictions on sending a banana plant to Canada & let me know what they say. It should be the same as what they told me. Feel free to also inquire about the date of shipping & the date of arrival, if you like. - Respect others & that respect will be returned.

Other views on shipping & other info should, yes, be shared & considered. Let's be friendly, just the same. Experience is the Greatest teacher.

Noted.
If Patty's statement seems a little unusual, it's because all of Wolfe's posts have been deleted from the thread.

Thanx Penny . Threads don't usually get THIS off-topic but at least ended up with lots of shipping info ! Best of Luck !

For Newcomers to the thread:
This is a Friendly Thread about Shipping plants to other Countries, esp. Canada.

Posts 7, 11-13, 17, 18, 21, 22, & 24 : These will seem unusual since the Wolfebc posts were all deleted from the thread.
Posts 13, 17, 18, & 22 : Kaczercat's frantic responses = the result of "Intensive Interrogations" contained in those now-deleted posts.
POST 15 = Link to "Canada Food Inspection Agency / Plants" contains useful info on U.S.-to-Canada Canadian plant shipping laws.
POST 16 = One member's personal experiences with UPS & FED EX with respect to mailing plants to Canada.

Hope this explanation clears the Thread up a little. It's still a great thread for posting Int'l shipping info & experiences.

Matt, my dad said the same thing, just not to talk to him at all. Think that's real good advice. Glad Ur Foxtail fern's doing great!! Gotta try one of those, myself!!

My concern is with people who carelessly ship plants from one location to another. You should first check what common pests and/or diseases at your location might be a problem in the location you are shipping to. For more information, see this thread: Why I use synthetic pesticides.

When I posted yesterday, all I saw was an 'opinion', but then it got a little out of hand. I got a PM from Wolfe saying it was him that deleted all his posts here, and his profile. I hate to see this so, Wolfe, settle down & join back in so we can all learn & have fun

Good point, Richard. I tried to minimize risks, when sending Matt the Blue Java, by rinsing off the corm & roots & wrapping them in most, clean paper towels. I put that in a plastic baggie, with holes, to maintain moisture during the trip.
But some do like to send them potted. There is a special, pest/disease free soil-mix many companies use. This is also worth investigating.
Thanx for the link, Richard ! I'm still pretty new to all this shipping stuff.

OK, I know you meant well by your efforts but that could be just the right way to send an unwanted root fungus or virus. Consider taking the extra step of either:
  • coating the surfaces with a rooting medium that contains fungicides and viricides, or
  • dipping the whole thing in a 1-ounce per gallon solution of Liqui-Cop (or equivalent) in water

Never used Liqui-Cop. Is it the same, or does it have the affect as using a dilute bleach solution?

Household bleach is a single ammonium and destroys a respectable number of fungi and a few bacteria-born viruses.
Triple-ammonia compounds like Physan-20 and Nacossan have a broader range.
Liqui-Cop is a Copper Ammonium complex sold under the Monterey Lawn and Garden Products brand. The additional presence of copper gives it the widest range of these three and is still very safe for food crops. The copper also is bad news for any mollusks (snails, slugs) that might be lurking about.

Thanx for the great info, Richard ! Next time, I will definitely be using Liqui-Cop to be completely safe. Bio-hazards are always a vital concern.
