Default Is it possible to double flower?

I have two mats with two pups that are really close in age and size. Is it possible that both pups will flower at the same time? Can one mat produce more then one bunch at a time?

There are the same age about 1 - 2 weeks apart. I did not want to cut one off at first and now am thinking maybe I could get two bunches at once?

This IC has me thinking both pups are the same thickness, height and number of leafs. Could it really happen?

Nice, so I guess the next question is, will I just end up with a small bunch? Should I cut them apart now so this does not happen? I think it would be cool looking to have two bunches hanging next to each other. But not at the expense of small harvest or not so great tasting fruit.

My Misi Luki are doing it currently. It may affect you nanner size, but that has already been determined by the water, fertilizer, sun, etc, that it got for the last year. Nothing you can do to change it now.

I have seen one banana pseudostem make seven bunches simultaneously in Hawaii, although that is very unusual. Doubles are triples are more common.

yes - the mat will produce several bunches of fruit at a time - they will probably be slightly smaller than if there was just one bunch - but the feeding 3 months before will determine the size. I currently have 3 bunches on Ice Cream and 2 on Orinoco having just harvested 3 bunches of Dwarf Cavendish within the week - sheesh!!

Thanks everyone! I never seen it happen so was not sure if it could really happen or not. I will just let them be for now and see how cool it is when they flower.

For feeding I have really been laying off this year with my water in fertilizer. Do you still fertilize your adult Naners? I have been using lots of horse manure, compost and worm castings this year.

Hi,

the most known is 'Double Mahoi', which does form two bunches per pseudotrunk, this is a variety of "Dwarf Cavendish", I have also "Nanica" here in Brazil, very similar to "Dwarf Cavendish". Here also in Brazil one double bunching cultivar does exist, this is "2 Cachos". I will get on Tuesday or Wednesday 2 pups of "2 Cachos" from Helton.

Today I have prepared my new yard in Brazil for my banana collection, see Bananas Raras But my soil in Brazil is sandy. Anyone has experiences with larger bananas on sandy soil? But my Musa basjoo 'Sakhalin' does well here in the sandy soil It's clearly necessary to water and fertilize much here.

With the best wishes from Brazil

Just to clarify, I believe the original poster is asking whether or not you can get two blooms at the same time from a single MAT....not a single plant.

Yes, and there are two ways to accomplish that: by getting >1 blooms on different plants in a mat simultaneously, or by getting >1 blooms on the same plant in a mat simultaneously.
