This is my first year growing banana's in a container. my results were great but now I need to figure out what to do over the winter. I do not have a cold basement to store them and do not have south facing windows. i was thinking of removing the mother plant from the pot and wrapping it with burlap. The main plant is about 9' tall and will put it in my unheated attached garage.
The pups will be left in the container and brought inside facing west windows. Any advice would be grateful. I have a picture of the plant in my gallery |

If it drops below 40* it will die off pretty quick. Unless you had it stored where temps would stay constant.

Thanks. It has been getting down to the low 40's so I moved it to my covered porch

Howdy Pisangboy: Wrap wife or mother in law in burlap, place in unheated garage! Leave banana plant inside! :-) Sorry I couldn't resist! Seriously, if you have the indoor space, I'd do whatever is necessary, to keep mother plant inside, but again, that depends on what type of nanner plant it is!

I'm kinda in the same position. Just moved all my plants in cause we had a frost last night. Right now the only windows I have to work with are north and west, so that's where they are. I would consider investing in some sort of light to compliment the natural light from your west windows. That's what I plan to do anyway.

Thanks all,
I will bring the container with stepmother and pups inside. I know I have to water sparingly should I remove any leaves.? |

Water and fertilize sparingly and no need to remove leaves.
