Currently my SH-3640 banana is flowering for the first time!...She is almost 9 feet tall!....With 15 banana leafs in total, a monster!....A very strong, robust and stout banana plant!.....For me this one is a keeper!....

My personal opinion, The SH-3640 is one of the best banana "hybrids" coming from the FHIA line!....period!....

The SH-3640 is considered a cold tolerant banana variety and she will recover quickly from any cold spell than some other banana varieties like the Cavendish types....Has been mentioned before, that she is also, considered a short cycle banana (grows rapidly, fruits early)...Not in the same league as the Veinte Cohol banana or Patupi banana but it will grow fast as some of the Cavendish varieties!.....

I also grow Cavendish banana varieties (Williams and Grand Nain) side by side with the SH-3640 and I can tell you from my personal experience, this past winter, the SH-3640 didn't loose any banana leaf contrary to the Cavendish varieties (Williams and Grand Nain) they starting losing banana leafs because of the cold winter spell!......

I just had my first High Noon fruit the other day. The plant-crop bunch weight was 73 lbs. Don't be surprised to see thirteen hands on this guy! The top three or four hands on my raceme had about eight-inch (or slightly longer) fingers (very plantain-like dimensions, as I'm sure you'll appreciate). The fruit are a little more fragile than Cavendish types and the peel has more persistently clinging strings, but I find the taste highly comparable; if anything, it toes the line between the creaminess of many of the "alternative" bananas and the dry firmness of the Cavs. Don't let them get spotty or the taste seems to suffer to my palate. They're best consumed immediately at the fully yellow state. They were also terrific boiled with salt and coconut cream about a month out from fully ripe (one of the better dessert bananas I've ever cooked). Congratulations!

Varieties I supposedly bought: Manzano, Cavendish, Blue Java, Sweetheart, and Gros Michel.
What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more.

I haven't been on the forum for months!....Turnout a pretty good size SH-3640 banana bunch!...The SH-3640 banana fingers are in comparison to a plantain size fingers!....They are big!.....No doubts the SH-3640 is one of the best from the FHIA family line!......Harvested recently on October 05, 2016.....

Wow. That is a nice bunch. They look like mine, though... They look like they could have stayed on the plant a while longer... Hurricane issues? I prefer to let mine begin ripening "on the vine" so I know they are as ripe as they can get, plus, if you cut them early I have noticed you tend to get all ripe at once whereas when they ripen on the vine you get a hand at a time. That's my observation, anyway.
Let me know how they taste to you. It seems some love em and others hate em. I hope mine get growing so I can try some next summer. Right now it's a 4 foot tall sword sucker I got from Worm Farmer a little over a month ago or so.

As you mentioned, it could stayed on the plant a little longer but did not want to take a chance with Matthew that was coming in our way!...As you, I also prefer to let it ripe on the plant and get a hand at a time.....

I already tasted (prior) the SH-3640 banana. For me the SH-3640 variety is a keeper!... I love them!.....Yours should be ready to flower/blooms next year for sure!...Good luck!.....
