Thank you! Yes for shure, if i get to growing them in the right way i intent to grow several varieties.

Oh, dear, welcome to the obsession. I bought a DC 2 years ago; I had to leave her when I moved. Now that I have my own piece of land, I have 9 varieties and am on the search for more.

At least you are n the right zone. I'm in zone 6 and producing fruit is a 2 to 3 year ordeal but I enjoy it. It turns into a neighborhood party when the bunch ripens lol! It's so funny how so many people find it interesting how bananas fruit. Bananas aren't to hard to grow and are very rewarding .

I hope that little plant grows well for you. I also hope that it is only the start of a great collection. With your grow zone, you can grow many of the plants out there. Probably all of them!

Thank's! Well that's a big hope to me... but i still don't belive it. The winters are a bit long here, from November to March. The min temp is not so low, -3C is the lowest. Never snows. But it's a lot of time with temp 12C to 10C during the day and 6C to 3C at night. It's a tuff thing, that's why i want to make them to pass winter inside my home... :bananas_b

I have mine in pots this year and will be moving them into the garage for the winter. Next year I will plant the taller plants in the ground, then when winter comes, dig up and place them in the garage,or under the house. I am hoping for some pups before I start to experiment with overwintering.

When it gets cold out, they stop growing anyway. So you dig them up and put them away so they don't freeze. If you you store them where it's to warm they will try to grow again. So if you store them right, cool not cold, dark, they will store for months. Then when the weather warms you plant them back out. That is pretty much the nutshell version. I still have a lot to learn.

The header in my garage is 7 feet. If the plant, pot, and a set of wheels under the pot is more than 7 feet, I will need to dig them up. I have one plant that will be a good challenge for me. I have a Tall Red that member buddy gave me that gets 18 feet tall. It probably will not get that tall in my zone, but much taller than 7 feet. This year it will still fit through the door. In our winters, sometimes it rains for weeks. If you plant yours in the ground,plant in a mound. That way it will not be sitting in water if the timing is off. If the ground drains well not as big of deal. My ground drains extremely well. I might still make a raised bed and plant there.

Ha ok then, i have a good drain in my ground and he is all in a gentle slope. Whater never sits there.

When the ground drains well, your plant will need much more water when the weather gets hot and the plant is growing rapidly. Watch your plant close and it will tell you what it needs. Just takes a little time to learn the language.

Once I got the first one figured out I couldn't wait to get more. I currently have 7 different varieties and am still looking for more.

Yup. You officially have a "Magnificent Obsession". Congratulations! Welcome to the club. I supposedly have a dwarf red something but the P stem is green so I suspect it's another type of something. But it is a Musa and it probably produces a dessert banana since that's the only type my source grows and bird doo plants can't occur in non seeded varieties.

If you cut the Pstem, watch out for cutting though the buds, I cut back my velutinas to bring in and I accidentally cut though 3 flower buds that would have bloomed soon :(

Yeah, me too!!:woohoonaner: we got 2 musa cavendish.. Although one had a rotten middle.. I am hoping to save it.. It is normally $30.00 it was on sale for $5.00..

I have been reading. My only concern, at this point is the one plant that I purchased for $5.00 normally 30.00. The new growth was rotten. Hoping it will survive. Have you had any luck with that?
I was looking to start a new thread, but I haven't figured it out yet.

I had one die a year ago; I still mourn it. Oh, I've lost other plants other than Musas over the years but only 1 banana. Sometimes you can't save them. How to save it? Do you have a picture of it? You can post it to your gallery here if you do. (There are instructions under Site Help and Feedback.) And then start a thread about your puppy.

Starting a thread is easy. Why not begin by introducing yourself? From the main page click on Member Introductions. To the left of the Page 1, etc is a link for New Thread. Click on that. Type something in the title area then tab or mouse down to the open area and write something about yourself.

I bought my Mona Lisa from that seller. Purchased 1 but received 2 small TC plants stuck together. I was able to carefully separate them and both are doing great. :08:
