especially if it doesn't cost you anything.
I was trying to separate a bordelon pup a few weeks ago and it didn't go so well. I guess I didn't cut down far enough so the pstem and part of the broken, rootless corn came up. I finished the cut and got the rest of it. It was a tiny piece, too small to make the team but with a big heart. I didn't get a picture of the little fella but I believed in him and stuck him in a pot of soil. A big pot at that. About 10 days later this started to show... After another week or so it grew in to this.... And a month or so later (today 5-31-21) here is Rudy Ruettiger. We just call him Rudy. Sorry I failed on the corm pic, just know it was about the size of a bar of soap that's about done and ready for the trash can. |

As long as you get the growing point (don't know the technical term), which is about the center of the corm, you are generally fine. Experience says that the top half if the corm (or maybe a little more) is all that is needed.

One time I dug up a very large Orinoco pup from a wild grove. I think it was maybe 8 or 9 foot pstem. I snapped it off just below where the corm ended and the pstem began. I almost tossed is but peeled back some layers to expose little white roots. Planted it last spring and just harvested the fruit.
