Ok. I bought this raggedy plant from a local nursery. They did not purport to have any in-depth expertise on bananas, but they did have it labeled as an Ice Cream Banana. Based on what I know, this plant has many of the characteristics of the true Musa Blue Java "Ice Cream" Banana. Please weigh in with your thoughts. If it is another fake, please let me down easy. This is my second go-around at this

Your chances of having something other than an Ice Cream banana plant are much higher than having the "real deal" Blue Java. Hope that was easy enough 😄

Don't get attached to it being a Blue Java until it blooms and fruits...the risk is too high that it isn't what it is labeled as.
The nursery I bought my "Blue Java/Ice Cream" from turned out to be a tall Namwah. The rest of the bananas they sold me are all true-to-name except for the Namwah.

That will be my next step. If you can recommend anyone with a real Blue Java, pup for sale I would appreciate it. I am going to give this one a few months first though.

My plant has lots of pups but the flag leaf is out as I type, so I do not want to separate a pup and stress the mother plant at the moment. Other than that I will post pictures as soon as the flower and fruits are out and I can save a pup for you. |
