How long might it take for my bananas to ripen
Hello all, I took over care of a teaching glasshouse at Reading University a couple of years back. After some major soil renewal I now have a dwarf cavendish banana in flower. How long do these usually take from flower to ripe fruit? We are moving into cold dull weather and even the greenhouse will be in the mid-teens/low twenties celsius until next spring. Advice welcome!

I can see I'll need to keep a photo diary - there is very little light and the temperatures are now down in the teens inside the greenhouse!

They ripen faster if you put them in a brown paper bag and put them in a dark place. It has something to do with the fruit alcohol ethanol that is produced. For mostly green bananas it takes about 4 days and for slightly ripe it will take 2 days.
