Default How long does it take to start to grow again?

Hi there, how long does it take to new growth to pop up after the main stem has been cut down due to shipping after being potted again?

I think about three weeks, in my experience. It's slow at first, then they start unfurling pretty quickly if the base was already pretty big.

Best regards,
Lisa

I noticed about that same time frame on a several different kinds of transplants.

it depends on the weather, usually if it's sunny and 70's- 80's it only takes about a week just over a week. the roots will take then you'll see top growth.

It may have something to do with a lot of factors: How severely was it cut back; how long was
the transfer and last not least, what are the new conditions.

I have given a detailed account of one of my experiences with two corms, which had been
trimmed back pretty severely for a trip home in my suitcase, here: I Think I Scored a Coup
You will have to scroll down to the bottom of Page 1 to get the beginnings of the story.

One PS died, but only after producing 2 pups and the other took also a long time, just sitting
there, before it suddenly started producing.

To sum it up: You should see a short piece within the pseudo stem advancing a few mm
almost immediately and then stop. It may take a month or so, depending on the above
factors, before the actual recovery becomes apparent.

So do not give up!

Good luck,
Olaf

Hi. I just received a 1ft cut back stems w/little roots. Pretty thick. 3 and 4" in diameter. They started pushing inner core almost immediately and bitby bit growing up. 2" in a few days.
Hope this helps.

Alex

All the pups I cut I dip the root in Mycorrhizal Fungi to help the roots. I've seen a vast difference between pup dipped and not dipped, and they had roots at only a foot tall. The one dipped didn't have any leaf dry-up just kept truckin' but I do have them both in front of a mister.

If it was actively growing when it was cut, it will appear to continue growing even during shipment. But ultimately, you have interrupted the growth process, so it will take a few weeks for the plant to re-establish itself, form new roots and resume vegetative growth. Temperature is important. In cool winter weather the process almost comes to a halt. In nice worm summer weather the plant metabolism is much higher and it recovers much, much quicker.
