Would a garbage bag over top of the plant keep it alittle warmer tonight?

I don't think a garbage bag would be needed. I left my 6.5' Gros Michel outside in the ground until low temps got into the upper 30's last week. When the temps were just dipping into the mid 40's, the GM didn't show damage and kept growing.

Glad to hear so far so good.
![]() I was really surprised by how vigorously my GM continued to grow at the lower extreme of its tolerable temp range. I expected it to be the first to stop growing when low temps started hitting the mid 40's (since it's rated as the least cold hardy of my outdoor bananas), but it kept growing, and even grew faster than my DB at those temps.
