Default Flowers and pups
I have six inch peeper/pup coming up on one of my flowering namwas. There's not much season left so don't want the plant to waste energy on the pup and I have a seven foot replacement for next year growing.

It sounds a bit brutal but I am considering cutting the pup off just below the surface and then driving a long screwdriver into the center of the pup and twisting it around to kill it. Is this method of pup elimination valid?

I want to eliminate the pup with minimal damage/interference to the flowering plant.

Please correct me if I am thinking incorrectly. Once a pup has emerged and turned green, Is it not giving more to the mother plant than it is taking? Why not leave it till spring, then remove it, to give away or sell?

Hey George.

I don't know for sure however pups connected to the mother plant grow significantly faster in my patch than plants which are separated so that tells me they are sucking resources from the mother plant. Come to think of it that is probably why they are called "suckers" i.e. water sucker/sword sucker.

Maybe I am being stupid, but I was under the impression that flowering/ornamental bananas only propagated from seed - not pups. Guess I'll be learning something.

They pup like regular bananas. My ensete bananas never pupped.
