Question African Red: edible? is it Zomba Red or?

The Bananas Wiki has one photo but no data on African Red. PitangaDiego lists it as ornamental. When I search MGIS at http://195.220.148.3:8013/MGIS_2/Que...Accessions.htm nothing comes up for "African Red", but searching for "red" turns up several interesting African cultivars. Could it be one of these?

Thanks!

Thanks to Bigdog for answering this question back in 2005 in the thread "Hi, I'm Bobby... I'm new here" !

At first I tried searching the Forums with
African Red
but discovered the results were threads with either "African" or "Red". Notice I said threads -- the 'post' mode of search returns all the posts in a thread that have the search string in at least one post.

But later I tried
"African Red"
which returned just those threads with that exact string. Finally in an uncommon moment of inspiration I tried
"African Red" edible
and that really boiled it down to a few relevant threads.

Oh, the answer is "The bananas are not edible."

Glad I could help, Richard, LOL! Not only are the bananas not edible, but the cultivar seems to be a sterile hybrid. It doesn't produce any pollen and won't accept any (yet) either. It's a nice little banana though, and corms store very easily under the house. Of course, in your climate you wouldn't need to do that!

I have an African Red. The fruit doesn't plump up and the inflorescence doesn't produce pollen, nor will it accept pollen (I've tried with my velutina) so I'm presuming it is sterile.
