avoid looking at the light especially in close proximity
a lot of the time they do not have reflectors but a couple improvised ones could keep the light focused downwards and not towards a sitting area etc.
My led bulbs are on, swing arm desk lamps, so I can adjust where the light is pointing at. I point them all facing down, that way the light is not hitting my eyes.

I as well thought only the plug was different and not the ac current.
I would be in the same boat in my excitement to plug the lights in.
There might be a chance they just shorted at the transformer and are still salvageable

Your new setup is similar to one of mine with a grow light (purple bulb) supplemented with a warm white par38.

I did a fast check and you have a pretty good selection of hydroponic outlets in uk where you can get your lights for your indoor grow. So you may order them locally or even drive to pick them up. Pricing seems competitive.
Plants are looking nice.

Here is an example.

Unfortunately Mike. I thought it was just the plug aswell, if i order anything electrical again from abroad i will make sure to check the appliance voltage.

Thanks for that link. Everyone in the UK were out of stock at the time, when i ordered mine.

I dont spend enough time in the garage to worry about the light, but i do not look directly at it.. it is REALLY bright. I also have a grow tent (4'x4'), that i use it in, which is lined with reflective material, however i use that for smaller stuff like tomatoes and peppers etc.

the 1800W model confirmed my suspicion that they were inflated equivalent watts
the 1500W one is 270 real watts
here in N America you can only get a maximum of 1725 W from an outlet (15A breaker)(115V)
to get a better idea of what you are buying just look at the true wattage
