Default What kind of banana?

This past summer I posted about a banana tree that came into bloom. I thought if I posted a better photo some one might tell me the variety

can you post a picture of the actual plant? If this is something you've been growing outdoors, most likely it is an orinoco.

We neglected the tree because we were going to compost it. It grew to 16' and would not fit back in the greenhouse in the fall.

The bananas had 3 "sides" They never developed ~ never grew. Subsequent flowers that opened just fell off.

I just pitched the immature banana in the garbage today. After being in the house as per other directions that I read, they rotted away. They grew to about 3 inches and just stopped

TIA

I know that the post was from a long time ago. Is this variety hardy in NC, zone 7 and will it produce fruit if planted in the ground outside? It only blossomed one time and it was too late in the season for the bananas to ripen.

But now we have so many in the greenhouse, we would like to plant them outside.

Thanks for any help.

Hello I live in zone 8b coastal nc. Musa Orinoco can survive outdoors in your zone. But you would have to wrap it and cage it up with mulch around the base and leaves. The warmer you keep it in a enclosure the less p-stem lost better chance of a flower. But you might never make it with fruit maturing enough to remove before the cold.

I think this a banana I am seeing not too far from our home. It looks like he cuts it down in the fall. I should have looked to see if he mulches it...
