Default Virginia Banana Plants

I'm new here. Just started planting bananas two years ago. Last year some of them got to ten feet. In the fall I wrapped them in bubble wrap and by the beginning of spring, they had drooped to about four feet. When I unwrapped them, they were good to go at four feet, and have started rising up from there.

I would appreciate any tips for growing (or wintering) in zone 7.

Hi Jim. Welcome to the forum. I live down in South Carolina. I'm right on the border of zones 7/8. Sounds like you've got it nailed down so far. I dig mine up and wrap and place under the house. They do fine thru the winter.

Best place for tips on growing is just look through the threads.

What varieties do you have. Post a lot of pic. These folks like pics.

Brian

Howdy, I thought I read on here somewhere that if theres one thing deer won't eat, it's banana plants, you can plant as many as you want.

I live WAY out in the woods, nobody else out here, just me, bears and thousands of deer.

I went out this morning, and one of my young plants is eaten right to the ground!

Good thing you don't have wild pigs, they would've rooted out the corm too & ate that to boot.. :^)
