Do you protect your bananas with something in the winter? I've seen some burn on the leaves of my AeAe right away, but I have variegated rubber plants, variegated adeniums, and variegated plumerias out in full sun, which do not get burned leaves. I think you're right that they definitely do better in some sun rather than part shade.

I do not protect them. I live on the mountian side of the 101 and am in an area that is warmer by 10 degrees than my friends one exit up. My partial shaded AeAe's are taller than my house. If you are in the area and want to check out some plants, let me know.
