Re: South Louisiana Members
Yvonne,
I am in the Baton Rouge area and these are the bananas that I am growing.
Musa acuminata - 'Ice Cream'
Musa balbisiana - 'Thai Black'
Musa Dwarf Cavendish
NOID - Very likely to be Orinoco
Musa Balbisiana - 'Gigantea'
Musa Red Iholene
Musa acuminata sumatrana - 'Zebrina' 'Blood Banana'
Musa Bordelon
Musa Ornata - Lavender
Musa siamensis - ‘Thai Gold’
Musa Mannii
Musa Becarrii
Musella lasiocarpa - 'Golden Lotus'
Ensete ventricosum var 'Maurelli' - 'Red Abyssinian Banana'
Ensete ventricosum
Ronald,
Zebrina, ornata, and a large variety (looks like Orinoco) are very common in Louisiana and considered 'weeds' by some people that do not try to control them. Oddly enough, Bordelon which is the only banana from Louisiana is not very common while zebrinas have become a common sight b/c of the big box stores.
