I always wait until payment has been received before I mail out plants or fertilizer. Bananas.org has a feedback feature similar to EBay and such. Make sure to use it.
So far I was only scammed once while trading. Someone promised to send a certain variety and I send him a huge plant shipping cost alone were $75. That was in 2015. Excuses over excuses after that followed why he was not able to mail the promised plant and I even received photos of the fruiting plant I had sent him. Never again. Lesson learned, but I left feedback. Sorry that happened to you.
