I went to meet an old friend at the weekend and to have a look round his new house. As soon as I parked the car I spotted these in his garden. I wonder if you may be able to offer some thoughts on how he can get them looking as good as possible.
He lives in Cornwall, which is in the southwest of the UK. It gets warm and can cope with some tropical plants. He is close to an estuary but I do not think that he will get sea spray.
He has only just bought the house and so has little knowledge of the plants or the soil etc but these are some of my thoughts and assumptions:
They look well established.
It has been raining buckets (rivers bursting banks where i live) and there was no standing water and so I assume that the plants are in relatively well draining ground.
There are well grown pups.
I am assuming that they have not been fed for some time.
I wonder if he should cut off the leaves which are clearly at the end of their time, feed it and separate out some of the pups.
I am assuming its a cold hardy plant probably basjoo?
