Default Post Harvest Question

I've only been growing bananas for a few years, and after harvesting, I've simply cut down the plant and let the stump sit there, with the pups growing around the old stump. Now I have several stumps still sitting around, with large plants growing around them, and think that I probably should dig them up. So, this gives me a few questions.

1) What should I do with my old stumps (dig them up, leave them to eventually rot in the soil, something else)?

2) What should I do from now on with the plant after I harvest my bananas (dig up the old plant, cut it and let the stump rot, something else)?

3) Is there a FAQ or something on this site that gives some basic information about things like this? (If so, can I get a link, please)?

Thanks in advance!
