I'm amazed at how fast seeds pop in this thing! I sowed those marble seeds like 4 or 5 days ago! I've never seen pepper seeds sprout so quickly before.

But the official "AeroGarden" nutrients seem very expensive.

I think this would be a good question on the aero-garden site but here's what I think. I found the actual aero-garden nutrients to be fairly inexpensive and they gave me 25 packets with the 'start-your-own' kit I bought, plus more seed pods to sow your own stuff in, as well as labels and dome covers. I found them to be quite generous in their suppy.

All kinds of people that are into hydroponic gardening, use many different brands and formulas of nutrients to feed their plants. If it's meant for hydroponic plant feeding, then I don't see what the harm would be in using it. In fact I thought I might like to get my own formula anyway because I think I read that the aero-garden nutrients are very high in nitrogen.

So happy to hear that you and your sister are going to get one. I think it's wise to go with the smaller system until you see if you like it and if it works well for you. Be sure to join the aero-garden site, so you can gain tips and knowledge. The support is really encouraging there.

Whatever you do, don't fill the water level to the fill line when you're 1st germinating your seeds, or they'll be wet & soggy...plus white fuzzy mold will grow and spread! If you fill it way below the line however, things will be moist but not wet, and no mold will grow at all. The seeds will sprout successfully.

I am totally shocked that pepper seeds pop in less than a week! Wonder when the strawberry seeds will be up. In soil they take 21 days so it'll be interesting to see when they sprout in an aero-garden...
